Mother nature certainly was not looking on our side when we woke up Saturday morning to do this photoshoot with Kiera. The skies were gray and there was a mist in the air. I thought we were going to have to do plan B and find some locations with some coverings in order to shoot. Luckily, the rain held out and the sun even managed to peek its head out during our session.
Kiera was AWESOME to work with! She was super sweet and very nervous to be in Philadelphia. It was endearing to see how concerned she was about people asking for money or even just walking too close to her. I was definitely up for the challenge of getting her comfortable in the environment and in front of the camera. We started in the median of Market Street right in front of city hall. It's an awesome location and one that I've wanted to shoot at for years (even before I was even a photographer). I've spend many nights in Philadelphia at the Walnut Street theater and have seen so many people taking pictures there that I have always wanted to try it myself. It's definitely an intimidating spot to be in. There are cars whizzing by on either side of you and it's difficult to hear with the amount of noise that surrounds you. Luckily my assistant, Jack, is PHENOMENAL and is able to read my mind about what I want. He worked closely with Kiera to get her to relax and pose and not think about what was happening around us.
It wasn't long before Kiera really opened up and was having fun! The nice thing about being in Center City is that there are so many locations and little spots to photograph at. We finished up in the street and made our way down the street and into the middle of City Hall. We were able to get some amazing shots in front of a brick wall that was covered in ivy. We moved through and hit up another street where we did my favorite part of the evening, CONFETTI! It's amazing how confetti can make everyone smile and laugh! Kiera had a blast blowing it from her hands while trying to look into the camera (it's much harder than you would think!) It's like trying to rub your head and pat your belly at the same time. For some reason the brain just doesn't want to do it.
We finished off the night with a couple more spots around the city. We even had the opportunity to do a group shot with Paige who was also getting her photos done that night. We did some fun shots along with some sassy poses that turned out excellent.
I want to say a huge thank you to Little Dreamer's Tutus and the fabulous parents (Eileen and Mike) for providing Kiera with such a fun experience. I know that I had an absolute great time that night and I look forward to finding a graffiti wall somewhere in Philly to do her dance portraits!
