I had the pleasure of doing my first ever maternity photoshoot this past weekend. The best part of it was that it was my sister! We have been planning this shoot for quite some time and I was so excited to see it finally come together. We ordered her dress online and it was prettier than expected when it came in. It is a very flowy, aqua blue dress that allowed us to take some pictures with her stomach out. I was SHOCKED that she wanted to do this but I'm glad she did because the pictures came out beautiful.
She arrived at my house early that day with our mom and I did her hair and makeup. That hair degree I got when I finished up my undergrad degree finally paid off. I was pleasantly surprised with how everything turned out. I was a color specialist and normally hate doing styled type hair, but for some reason, after 18 years of having my hair license, it seemed to click and her hair came out great.
We got ready and drove to this magical place in South Jersey that I thought would be perfect for this type of shoot. As Danielle put it, "it was so Pinterest." That's another blog but I definitely need to figure out how to pin my pictures to Pinterest! Anyway, we arrived in the parking lot to the park and I could not wait to get started. My sister, on the other hand, did not want to get out of the car because she was embarrassed. I assured her we were going directly into the woods and none of the families playing on the playground were going to see us.
I kept my promise, marched us directly into the woods, and then realized that we were on the other side of the park from the bridge that we were going to. She said she would rather trek through the "jungle" than walk out into the playground. Unfortunately, we had to which really was not a big deal. The trail to the creek was a little swampy that day and I was not sure we were going to even be able to do the photoshoot. My sister was not a Bridezilla but she certainly wasn't having it on Tuesday.
We finally got to the location and it was PERFECTION. There wasn't anyone around, the lighting was exactly what I wanted, and my sister brought out her inner diva and did some amazing posing. My assistant for the day (our mom) was a big help too.
It was a great day spending time with my family out in the woods in South Jersey taking photos of my soon to be nephew Liam. He is one lucky little guy to have a mother who is amazing as my sister.
